Almost all of these categories of people are plagued by problems most of which could be solved if they have a trusted source to appreciate them and prescribe solutions. As for adolescents, most of their problems emanate from the lack of an affable and understanding attitude, which parents, mostly out of ignorance of how children need to be treated, substitute with muscle to impose discipline. Scared, they seldom take such parents into confidence in spite of the gravity of the problems they may face. Such children are seen to take to drugs and other unwholesome practices in a futile effort to relieve themselves of the pangs they feel within. Counseling in an atmosphere where they can feel at home and accepted becomes necessary.
Pre and post marital counseling could benefit couples considerably. This would help them to understand and accept each other in a much more constructive manner, paving the way for a sound and sustainable home atmosphere where they realize the importance of mutual understanding and acceptance beyond the barriers of personal idiosyncrasies, likes and dislikes in leading a positive and peaceful family life. A wide range of topics such as personal problems, individual inhibitions, sex, parental precautions and preparations etc. will be duly dealt with in the counseling exercise, which can play a meaningful role in reducing the increasing number of divorces, a social menace we face today.
Parents are always blamed but not trained. Hence even minor problems their children would have, there is hardly any child without such problems, upset them to the point of their resorting to none too advisable and even harsh methods as corrective measures. More serious complications that threaten to grow out of control result. Yet who is there to help parents? Most of them do not even know that they are at fault. They obviously need to be counseled, educated and trained on skills they need to raise children into human beings who are responsible, self-disciplined, co-operative and contributing.
CASS counseling centres at district levels could benefit many such people.
